Commute costs!
The above example is targeting London but let’s be
honest and admit that the problem is world wide spread issue. The “brain
branches” (the ones using computers and internet to
create value) of our global economy could and should break apart
from the mainstream policy.
This is an economical aspect of the employee cost that
no employer is taking seriously. Ask every employer that you could find, and
you will see that no one is truly consider the commute as an expense (time &
money) for the employee.
If is to say the employers prefer the most efficient way
to have
people/employees “living in dorm like buildings over the street from the office / work
place”. This is because there is no major employer that has the remote
working as a rule of business for his activities.
Most of the employers declare the sustainable approach to
their business / activities, along with inclusion & diversity, but no
one is truly willing to admit that they do not consider the commute to work as
a chore that could be dealt with. Overwhelmingly, they want the cheapest that
“tick the boxes” (on paper most of the time) of the job. If one put the commute
costs (time and money) on the paper, it is more than obvious
